In April of this year, a California Court of Appeal provided guidance for healthcare employers who had or continue to have vaccination mandates. In Hodges v. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, the Court of Appeal ruled that a hospital’s decision to terminate an employee for failing to comply with its flu vaccination mandate did not violate California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act prohibition on disability discrimination.

COVID-19 is a zombie that just won’t die. On August 11, 2022, the CDC published new COVID-19 guidelines. In many ways, the CDC’s new guidelines drastically depart from its prior guidelines. But, in other ways, the new guidelines re-affirm the CDC’s long-entrenched guidelines.

With most states lifting their mask mandates and the omicron-driven wave has started to subside, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has begun to change its course on masking guidelines. As of this past Friday, February 25, 2022, the CDC announced a new framework, “COVID-19 Community Level” metrics, to determine whether to recommend masks in a given area.
