Fractional Chief Operating Officer

At MNK Law, we are proud to offer our clients the option of hiring a fractional chief operating officer (COO). This is a relatively new offering that is already transforming the way our clients do business.

A fractional COO performs the function of a traditional chief operating officer and is tasked with overseeing administrative functions and daily business operations. The COO helps to train, support, and execute on business operations to ensure that goals are met.

The fractional COO — also known as the virtual COO or the outside COO — is not a full-time employee of your business. They work as a contractor and are paid on a part-time or contract basis.

However, the fractional COO fulfills the same duties as a traditional COO. They still oversee your administrative and business operations and are a key partner when it comes to planning for your short- and long-term growth. Working with a fractional COO is an affordable option for small and midsize businesses.

Fractional General Counsel

Most successful businesses keep a general counsel (GC) on staff to provide ongoing legal advice. The fractional GC — also known as the virtual GC or the outside GC — performs the same function as a traditional GC, but on a part-time or contract basis.

A general counsel performs three essential functions:

Putting out fires
Anticipating the hazards ahead and implementing safeguards
Offering legal counsel and perspective to leadership in order to maximize the information that leadership has when confronting business and legal challenges

The general counsel can offer impactful, actionable advice precisely because they work on an ongoing basis with the company and have a deep knowledge of the business. A fractional GC offers that level of depth and knowledge, but at a significantly lower cost.

Our clients understand that simply hiring attorneys on an as-needed basis will not yield the results they need. Working with a fractional GC is the perfect solution for clients who are not in a position to hire a full-time GC but still want the benefit of a deeply invested, knowledgeable legal advisor.

We also work alongside current general counsel or legal teams. Where appropriate, we mentor and train junior staff. When a client already has outside counsel, we can step in to manage that relationship to ensure an outcome in line with the company’s goals — whether this means supervising outside counsel in litigation and transactions or simply providing additional counsel.
