The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (“EEOC”) is reminding employers that they have until Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 11:00 p.m. Eastern Time, to submit workforce data for 2024.
Who Must File?
The EEO-1 Component 1 Report is a mandatory filing providing demographic workforce data—specifically, the sex and ethnicity of employees by job category, to the EEOC. The EEO-1 Component 1 Report is required only for certain employers:
- Private employers with 100 or more employees, and
- Federal contractors with 50 or more employees who are subject to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
Key Changes for the 2024 Reporting Cycle
Employers should carefully provide their data this year, as the EEOC has made several updates to the reporting requirements that distinguish the 2024 EEO-1 Component 1 filing from previous years:
- Shortened Filing Window:
The EEOC has reduced the time allotted for filing to lower administrative costs. Unlike past years, the filing deadline will not be extended beyond June 24, 2025. Employers are encouraged to begin the process promptly.
- Electronic-Only Communications:
The EEOC will no longer send notifications via postal mail. All official communications related to EEO-1 reporting will now be sent electronically. - Binary Gender Reporting Requirement:
For the 2024 filing, the EEOC will only accept employee data categorized by binary sex (male or female).
Failure to file by the June 24, 2025 deadline will result in noncompliance with mandatory 2024 EEO-1 Component filing requirements.
